New hours starting January 7, 2013

Starting Monday, January 7th, 2013 we will have new hours here at APL.

Monday: Closed

Tuesday: 10am-7pm

Wednesday: Closed

Thursday: 10am-7pm

Friday: 10am-7pm

Saturday: 10am-5pm

After reviewing foot traffic data along with data from the library survey, I was able to develop a clearer picture of when people visited the library and when people said they wanted to visit the library.  According to the survey data, the most requested day was Saturday, so that was a priority in the new schedule.  I decided to open on Saturday and close on Monday as there was a pattern of little traffic this day.  Finally, survey data reported that many residents wanted a more standardized schedule for the library that was easier to remember.  I have tried to provide this in the new schedule: we open at 10am everyday; close at 7pm on the weekdays and 5pm on Saturday.  Ideally, we’d be open Wednesdays as well, but our current budget will not allow for that.

Downloadable ebooks and audiobooks are here!

I am excited to announce that starting today, you can now use nh.lib.overdrive.com to access downloadable ebooks and audiobooks.  To login, simple use the dropdown menu and select “Allenstown Public Library.”  Then, enter the barcode on the back of your library card in the “library card number” box.  You can follow the directions linked from the page, or contact Amber at the library for assistance.  The NH Downloadable books blog also has some great step-by-step directions for syncing different devices with the system.

Over the next week, I hope to integrate the ebook and audiobooks into the library catalog.  For now, use the search feature on  nh.lib.overdrive.com to find material.

It might be time to ask Santa for a Kindle for Christmas!

FREE access to Ancestry.com library edition is here!

Onsite users of the Allenstown Public Library now have FREE access to Ancestry.com library edition.  Bring your wireless device or use a library computer to access all of Ancestry.com’s genealogy databases:

www.ancestrylibrary.com/

Please note that Ancestry.com’s library edition can only be accessed through the library’s wireless network, so you can’t use it at home.  You can however use it 24/7 if you come into the library or from the library parking lot, if you don’t want to get out of your car 🙂

This is a great new FREE library service, as a personal ancestry.com subscription can cost $155-$300/yr.

Questions?  Feel free to call Amber at the library.

Survey closes, Kindle winner announced

Congratulations to Martha Robie, who won the Kindle for completing the library survey.

In total, 98 of 1989 household completed the survey, a return rate of 5%.  While there is a range, many sources consider a mail survey response rate of over 10% good.  Be on the lookout for survey results.
